Signing up for your test

Students are required to pay for the first test, which is $75. The second test there are some scholarship funds available, but only if you pass the first test and are working hard in class.

To register for your test after Thanksgiving Break

• Get a blue form from me. I will sign it.
• Take it to Lisa with your payment. She will sign it.
• Take it to the testing center to sign up.

 

The New Labsim

Logging into Labsim looks a little different, but it still works the same. Just put in username and password.

 

Test every Friday!

Plan on a test every Friday. Next week you're doing TWO sections so be sure to put the pedal to the metal!

In Labsim you do NOT need to watch every video if you know the material well. My suggestion is:

• Read the intro and fill in anything you see on the Cheet Sheet
• Take the lab and or quiz(zes) that are in the section.
• If you don't understand or fail the labs or quizzes, go back and watch the video.

The whole point is not to sit and watch some dude who needs some orthodontia talk, but to learn the material well enough so you're ready for that test in a few weeks!

 

Available courses

• A+ Essentials

  A+ Certification is an entry-level certification for people interested in a career in Computer Service and Repair.

  You will be working using Moodle (this) as well as LabSim. When LabSim is unavailable, you must work on Moodle and vice/versa.

  On October 1 you must register for your first certification test. This test is approximately $75 and will be taken here, on campus. Failure to take the test will result in a failing grade for the quarter. If you take the test, but do not pass, you will receive the points you received on the test.

  The A+ Essentials Test (220-701) information follows:

  • 100 questions
  • 90 minutes to complete test in a quiet room with no materials or access to others or Internet
  • 675 Required to pass. Top score is 900.
  • Here we get half price, so it's called JKO-701 and is the same test.

  A+ Rrequires TWO tests to pass. The Comptia Practical Applications test is a little more challenging. (220-702)

  • 100 questions
  • 90 minutes to complete exam
  • 700 passing score

  Together these two tests make you an A+ Certified Professional. They also apply to some of the Microsoft Certifications.

  If you do not pass the test, you may retake it within 24 hours the first time. After that you must wait 30 days, then 90 days. You MUST pay for it each time you take it. There are no refunds for any reason, including not showing up for the test.

  

• A+ Certification: A+ Essentials

  This course is the first second year course. Two students may work together to complete the course. At the end of eight week, each student must complete the A+ Essentials Certification

  

• Network Plus

  This course is designed to help you prepare for the Network+ Certification through Comptia

  

• Networking Fundamentals

  This course is a six week course designed to help prepare you for the Networking Fundamentals Microsoft Technical Associate Certification. At the end of the course you will register and pass the 98-366 certification.

• Networking Fundamentals

  This course is a six week course designed to help prepare you for the Networking Fundamentals Microsoft Technical Associate Certification. At the end of the course you will register and pass the 98-366 certification.
